P'elvis News 11.17.2004
It's been ages since we've done anything. Recording sessions ground to a halt in July and the summer and fall have seen various personal and professional crises for all the P'elvis boys. We are planning on finishing up the recordings (once we can get Chris' saxophones tracked) and releasing an EP. Meanwhile our film career is humming along...

The short film Lifelike (P-star Pictures/John Besmer), which includes the P'elvis track "SS Montreal" is being considered for broadcast on The Independent Film Channel. For the film, the song was retitled "Lifelike Theme."

50 Crows Foundation has requested the use of "Template" as a backing track for a short video-format photo essay on photographer Paul Fusco's Chernobyl Legacy book. It will be broadcast on various TV outlets around the world — so far, MTV-U, which is the college campus version of MTV, and a large network in India. 50 Crows Foundation is all about social change through documentary photography and corresponding narrative.

Recording sessions are underway for our new record. A friend of ours and fan of the band, Rodney, is helping us out with the recording and he's keeping a diary of the sessions as they happen. It's pretty geeky and a bit technical, but it may interest some of you.

Our show at the Klinic bar drove home the point that our music doesn't really work in a dingy hole-in-the-wall rock club. We are retooling and brain storming ideas about how to present our music more effectively. Art galleries anyone? "The Real Old Testament" is a reality and will see theatrical release with a soundtrack that includes the P'elvis song "Folding the Sky." We begin recording our next record this Sunday...

Jetblackitalic charted in the top 100 on Earshot's Canadian college radio chart for November.

We've been contacted by an independent film director named Curtis Hannum about the possibility of using one of our songs in his film called "The Real Old Testament." When he was in Madison at the Wisconsin Film Festival last March, he somehow got hold of JetBlackItalic and liked what he heard. The movie is a parody of MTV's "The Real World" (the first chapters of the Bible shot as if TRW had been there to capture it). A working version has been getting good press and screening at a lot of festivals (including Slamdance). There are no star actors in the film and Curtis wants to fill the soundtrack with small bands that deserve exposure. He wants to use "Folding the Sky" at the end of the Adam and Eve segment, were they're dealing with the reality of being banished from the Garden. "In the working version of the film I had Cracker's 'Low' under that scene, and I tried putting 'Folding the Sky' there instead and it works well as a replacement." It's not a done deal yet, but it looks promising.

Our show at the Corral Room (8/24) was loud, sweaty, and transcendent. Chris was at the top of his game and he drove us all to new heights. Apparently the writer from Rick's Cafe liked it too.

There's a new poster (from our 8/16 Cafe Montmartre show) on-line for your viewing enjoyment.

We continue to write material for our next record, including some badly needed "rockers."

We received a gushing new review of JetBlackItalic from Action Man Magazine.

Southern Records has agreed to distribute both JetBlackItalic and Hi Fi Wreck on a trial basis. Word is, they love both of the records.

We're steadily climbing the charts at CIUT-FM in Toronto. JetBlackItalic entered their charts in the Top 30 and in three weeks has shot up to #3. Our friendly neighbors to the north have also asked us to do an on-air interview.

Our show at Cafe Montmartre (8/16) was sparsely attended but we did bust out some brand-new songs. We pulled them off well and are looking forward to recording them.

Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes has committed to licensing "The Lunar Sea" and "Myoclonic Jerk" to promote their new product line Cake.

We're working on new material for our next record. We've filled up three or four CDs of improvisations that we're now trying to rework and massage. We plan on recording this stuff ourselves in Tony's basement...

We've got a show at Cafe Montmartre coming up soon showcasing some of these brand-new songs. Look also for shows in Milwaukee and Chicago.

There's a chance we may be licensing a couple songs off of JetBlackItalic for use in a promotional video/DVD for Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes. Kevin has seen the biking footage (shot in Hawaii); he reports that it is "quite stunning and arty even."
