Hi Fi Wreck In Slo Mo
Far and away the most compelling of these offerings is the saxophone-enhanced squalling of P'elvis, a massive instrumental quartet that blasts a mixture of fart-and-burp free jazz over the kind of mile-wide bass lines that once defined the cutting edge of noise-rock. Are these fellas out there? Absolutely. But even if you normally steer clear of loud, assaultive music, give a couple tracks on their excellent new EP, Hi Fi Wreck In Slo Mo, a chance. This is a smart act, not a bunch of high dB charlatans; the savage "Helvetica" alone is enough to jump-start a noggin's worth of tired synapses. The boys in the band know exactly how to punch up their Dionysian style, which makes every track on this startling EP an excellent tonic for the when-will-winter-finally-end? blues. — Tom Laskin, Isthmus
