JetBlackItalic Promo Blurb
On its newest recording, "JetBlackItalic," the massive instrumental quartet
P'elvis advances the hyper sax-skronk and mile-wide grooves of its debut
release and ventures into more varied and expansive territory. The
two-minute temper tantrums of sax and guitar feedback are still there, to be
sure, but P'elvis has also embraced an orchestral slow-burn that shows up in
a number of lengthy tracks. Make no mistake, this is not easy music, but
it's not all confusion, mood, and pretense either. P'elvis' back bone is a
bass-drums-guitar rhythm section steeped in the art-noise of the late 80s
and the grinding math-rock of the early 90s. Throw bop/avant-garde saxophone
explorations into the mix and the group careens from frenetic,
highly-arranged rockist stabs to edgy, contemplative excursions into
post-rock.
